BUILDING/DEMOLITION PERMITS – RESIDENTIAL

The purpose of a building permit is to ensure safe, quality construction which protects the public health, safety, and welfare of our residents. The permit process confirms that all standards are met with appropriate materials. Any new construction and remodeling projects require a township building permit. 

Construction under 1,000 square feet does not require an inspection providing it is stand-alone. If attached to a larger construction (house, garage, etc.) inspection is required.

New construction requires a series of five (5) inspections throughout the building process, plus an electrical inspection.

 Demolition permits are required in Mercer Township.  This assures that our tax assessments are kept up-to-date.
